Quantum annealing and Ising machines are specialized devices designed to solve cutting-edge combinatorial optimization problems. They can solve nonlinear optimization problems, including those with quadratic or higher-order terms, which were difficult for conventional solvers, with high speed and precision. This technology is utilized in a wide range of fields, such as shift optimization, route optimization, production planning optimization, energy management optimization, feature extraction in machine learning, structural design and shape optimization, and optimization of material blending ratios and manufacturing conditions.

Approaches to combinatorial optimization problems include a formulation-based approach, where you construct mathematical equations yourself to search for the combination that yields the best objective function value, and an approach called Black-Box Optimization (BBO), which is used when formulation is difficult or impossible, and involves sequentially searching for the combination that yields the best objective function value by combining simulations, experimental measurements, and machine learning.

This seminar will cover Black-Box Optimization (BBO) utilizing quantum annealing and Ising machines (QA-BBO). After providing an overview of QA-BBO, we will introduce Amplify-BBOpt (v1), a free library recently released by our company to easily leverage QA-BBO, and provide a technical explanation of its usage.

This content is recommended for those involved in research and development that requires extensive trial and error, such as exploring blending ratios and manufacturing conditions in structural design or material development, or those facing challenges with Bayesian optimization or evolutionary computation, or those who have recently heard the term 'Black-Box Optimization' and are interested. There are reported cases where QA-BBO has successfully found combinations equivalent to or better than traditional methods with only about 3% of the trial iterations.
