Q-STAR Appointed as Japan's Deliberative Body for the Joint Technical Committee on International Standardization of Quantum Technologies

– Contributing to the International Standardization of Quantum Technologies on Behalf of Japan

　The General Incorporated Association for the Creation of New Industries through Quantum Technology (Q-STAR) has been approved by the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee on December 6, 2024, to serve as Japan's national deliberative body for the Joint Technical Committee "IEC/ISO JTC 3 – Quantum technologies" (hereinafter referred to as JTC 3), a committee established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland.

　JTC 3 was established by IEC and ISO in January 2024. It is a joint technical committee that is advancing international standardization in the field of quantum technologies, including quantum information technology, quantum measurement, quantum sources, quantum detectors, quantum communication, and fundamental quantum technologies.

　With its approval as Japan's national deliberative body for JTC 3, Q-STAR will operate a national committee to deliberate on Japan's votes and proposals to JTC 3, thereby playing a crucial role in representing Japan's views in international standardization activities for quantum technologies. To fulfill this important role, Q-STAR will participate in JTC 3's activities and strategically engage in standardization efforts, working together with Japanese quantum industry stakeholders, including Q-STAR member companies, to ensure that standards beneficial to Japanese industry are established.

About Q-STAR

Q-STAR was established on September 1, 2021, with the aim of advancing quantum technology and its future societal implementation. Its purpose is to create new industries utilizing quantum technology, transcending industry and corporate boundaries. Currently, 106 corporations are participating in the organization. Moving forward, Q-STAR will continue to actively collaborate with quantum-related organizations overseas to promote the widespread adoption of quantum technology, not only domestically but also globally, and will also lead international standardization activities.
