Mr. Masahiro Horibe, Deputy Director of the Global Research Center for Quantum-AI Fusion Technology Business Development (G-QuAT) at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and an academic member of Q-STAR (General Incorporated Association for the Creation of New Industries through Quantum Technology), has been appointed to WG12 "Benchmarking of Quantum Computing" of the International Standardization Joint Technical Committee "IEC/ISO JTC 3 – Quantum technologies", for which Q-STAR serves as the domestic deliberative body.

Through Mr. Horibe's appointment as convener, Q-STAR, together with G-QuAT, will contribute to the international standardization of quantum technology and disseminate Japan's technological capabilities and knowledge to the world.

Effective December 6, 2024, Q-STAR was approved as Japan's domestic deliberative body for the Joint Technical Committee "IEC/ISO JTC 3 – Quantum technologies", established by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), both headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland. Q-STAR will operate a domestic committee to deliberate on Japan's votes and proposals, thereby playing a crucial role in presenting Japan's opinions in international standardization activities for quantum technology. To ensure the establishment of standards that are highly beneficial to Japanese industry, Q-STAR will strategically engage in standardization activities in unity with Japanese quantum industry stakeholders, including its member companies.
