We are pleased to invite you to the Quantinuum June 2026 Symposium, co-hosted by Quantinuum, RIKEN TRIP Headquarters, UTokyo Research Institute for Photon Science and Laser Technology (Utripl), Center of Innovation for Sustainable Quantum AI (SQAI), and Quantum and Semiconductor Science & Technology Program (Q-STEP).
This symposium aims to share and discuss research results toward the future development of quantum technology, including HPC-quantum hybrid computing environments, quantum error correction, applications in quantum chemistry, and applications in the life sciences.

Use quantum-inspired tech & AI to streamline in-car computer design for sustainability

Toyota Systems Corporation (Toyota Systems) and Fujitsu Limited, in collaboration with Toyota Motor Corporation (Toyota), announced the successful application of quantum-inspired technology and AI to automate one aspect of the automotive parts design process.

In a world first for the automotive industry, the technology was applied to automate the placement design for connector pins, metal parts that enable the transmission of electrical signals across circuits and components. The parts are deployed in the car’s electric control unit (ECU), a small onboard computer that controls the vehicle’s systems.

Paper submissions are currently being accepted for the workshop “QC4C3 – Quantum Computing for Classical Computational Challenges in HPC.”

This workshop is organized by Jij and AIST (National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology) and will be co-located with the international conference IEEE QCNC 2026, which will be held in Kobe, Japan, from April 6 to 8, 2026.

The workshop is broadly soliciting the latest research and initiatives regarding the application of quantum computing to classical computational challenges—such as optimization, machine learning, and CAE(Computer Aided Engineering) —as well as the integration and collaboration between quantum computing and HPC(High Performance Computing).

AIST and Fujitsu start quantum tech collaboration to boost global competitiveness

SC Ventures by Standard Chartered Bank, which builds and invests in breakthrough ventures in and beyond banking, together with Fujitsu, a leading developer of quantum software and hardware, are set to join forces on September 25 to incubate Project Quanta. The project will integrate multiple software and hardware technologies to provide clients a platform to rapidly explore, develop and integrate quantum computing and quantum-inspired applications.

The joint venture will leverage Fujitsu’s expertise in quantum computing R&D and software-and-algorithm development as well as insights gained through the development of its superconducting quantum computer. It will bring this expertise together with SC Ventures’ venture building prowess and deep insights into financial institutions to accelerate the development of quantum use cases, intellectual property, resources and value.

AIST and Fujitsu start quantum tech collaboration to boost global competitiveness

The Global Research and Development Center for Business by Quantum-AI technology (G-QuAT) at the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and Fujitsu Limited announced the signing of a collaboration agreement to strengthen international industrial competitiveness in quantum technology. The agreement, signed on September 26, 2025, aims to enhance cooperation between the two rganizations, thereby boosting Japan’s standing globally in this sector.
As part of the agreement, G-QuAT Fujitsu and will leverage their combined resources, including quantum computer-related technologies, manufacturing and evaluation facilities, and will promote research and development and personnel exchange. In this way, the partnership aims to foster international collaboration and research cooperation, ultimately contributing to sustainable economic growth.

SIT, Waseda Univ. and Fujitsu develop quantum computer-based robot posture optimization

Shibaura Institute of Technology (Associate Professor Takuya Otani, Faculty of System Science and Engineering [Human Robot System Laboratory]), Waseda University
　 (Professor Atsuo Takanishi, Faculty of Science and Engineering), and Fujitsu Limited today announced the development of an innovative method for efficiently controlling robot posture using quantum computing technology. This new approach facilitates the efficient and accurate calculation of inverse kinematics, i.e., determining joint angles from a target　end-effector position, for multi-joint lobots by leveraging qubit-based position representation and quantum entanglement. Verification using Fujitsu’s quantum simulator achieved up to a 43% error reduction with fewer calculations compared to conventional methods.
　The effectiveness of quantum entanglement was also confirmed through an experiment carried out on the 64-qubit quantum computer jointly developed by RIKEN and Fujitsu.

Fujitsu starts official development of plus10000 qubit superconducting quantum computer

Fujitsu today announced that it has started research and development towards a superconducting quantum computer with a capacity exceeding 10,000 qubits.
Construction is slated for completion in fiscal 2030.

The new superconducting quantum computer will operate with 250 logical qubits and will utilize Fujitsu’s innovative “STAR architecture,” an early-stage fault-tolerant
quantum computing (early-FTQC) architecture also developed by the company.
Fujitsu aims to make practical quantum computing possible, particularly in areas like materials science where complex simulations can unlock groundbreaking
discoveries, and to this end will focus on advancing key scaling technologies across various technical domains.

As part of this effort, Fujitsu has been selected as an implementing party for the “Research and Development Project of the Enhanced Infrastructures for Post-5G Information and Communication Systems” , publicly solicited by the NEDO(New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization). Fujitsu will be contributing to the thematic area of advancing the development of quantum computers towards industrialization. The project will be promoted through joint research with Japan’s National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) and RIKEN, and will run until fiscal year 2027.

Fujitsu and RIKEN develop world-leading 256-qubit superconducting quantum computer

Fujitsu Limited and RIKEN today announced the development of a world-leading 256-qubit superconducting quantum computer, established at the RIKEN RQC-FUJITSU Collaboration Center. This new quantum computer builds upon the advanced technology of the 64-qubit iteration, launched with the support of the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) in October 2023, and incorporates newly-developed high-density implementation techniques. This announcement marks another crucial step toward the practical application of superconducting quantum computers and unlocking their potential to grapple with some of the world’s most complex issues.

Both organizations will integrate the 256-qubit superconducting quantum computer into its platform for hybrid quantum computing lineup and offer it to companies and research institutions globally starting in the first quarter of fiscal 2025. The platform’s expansion from 64 to 256 qubits empowers users to tackle more complex challenges, including the analysis of larger molecules and the implementation and demonstration of sophisticated error correction algorithms.

Moving forward, both organizations will further enhance the platform’s usability by working to enable seamless collaboration between quantum and classical computers, enabling the efficient execution of hybrid quantum-classical algorithms.

Fujitsu and RIKEN will continue R&D efforts toward the launch of a 1,000-qubit computer, which is scheduled to be installed in a new building at Fujitsu Technology Park in 2026.

Fujitsu and Osaka University accelerate progress toward practical quantum computing

Fujitsu Limited and the Center for Quantum Information and Quantum Biology at Osaka University (QIQB) today announced the joint development of two new technologies for the space-time efficient analog rotation quantum computing architecture [1] that will accelerate the realization of practical quantum computing.

Fujitsu and QIQB have leveraged these new technologies, one that improves phase angle accuracy during phase rotation [2] and one that automatically generates efficient qubit operation procedures, to show that it is theoretically possible for a quantum computer to perform a calculation that would take a classical computer five years, in only ten hours. The two organizations found that the calculation, a material energy estimate, would be possible using only 60,000 qubits, significantly less than the amount typically thought to be required (3) for fault-tolerant quantum computation (FTQC) to surpass the calculation speed of classical computers.

Fujitsu today announced that it has received an order for a gate-based superconducting quantum computer from the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST) on May 15, 2024.
Fujitsu established the RIKEN RQC-Fujitsu Collaboration Center in April 2021 and has been conducting joint research with RIKEN aimed at scaling-up superconducting quantum computers. The new superconducting quantum computer is a system that Fujitsu has put into practical use by utilizing technology cultivated at the RIKEN RQC-Fujitsu Collaboration Center. It is scheduled to be operated by the Global Research and Development Center for Business by Quantum-AI technology (G-QuAT) of AIST in early 2025.
Fujitsu has also received an order for the ABCI-Q, a quantum and AI cloud from G-QuAT of AIST, in February 2024. This order will contribute to the development of a quantum and classical computing environment for G-QuAT.

Fujitsu February 19 announced the development of a novel technique on a quantum simulator that speeds up quantum-classical hybrid algorithms, which have been proposed as a method for the early use of quantum computers, achieving 200 times the computational speed of previous simulations.
The newly developed technology enables simultaneous processing of a large number of repetitively executed quantum circuit computations distributed among multiple groups. Fujitsu has also devised a way to simplify problems on a large scale with less loss of accuracy by using one of the world’s largest-scale quantum simulators it has developed.
