Q-STAR accredited as the Japanese National Mirror Committee
for “IEC/ISO JTC 3 – Quantum technologies”
~ Lead Japan’s Contribution to the International Standardization of Quantum Technologies ~
Tokyo, Japan – Quantum STrategic industry Alliance for Revolution (Q-STAR) has been accredited as the national mirror committee for “IEC/ISO JTC 3 – Quantum technologies” (JTC 3), the joint technical committee set up by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) and the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), by the Japanese Industrial Standards Committee on December 6, 2024.
JTC 3 was established by IEC and ISO in January 2024. It is dedicated to promoting international standardization in the field of quantum technologies, and its scope includes quantum information technologies, quantum metrology, quantum sources, quantum detectors, quantum communications, and fundamental quantum technologies.
As the national mirror committee for JTC 3, Q-STAR will proactively contribute to JTC 3 activities, and deliberate on votes and proposals on behalf of Japan. Q-STAR will collaborate with Japanese quantum industry stakeholders, including Q-STAR member companies, to establish standards that will benefit Japanese industry and society.
The national mirror committee will be open not only to Q-STAR members from industry and academia, but also other experts and interested parties in Japan, who are invited to contact Q-STAR.
About Q-STAR
Q-STAR (Quantum STrategic industry Alliance for Revolution)was established in Japan on September 1, 2021 by companies determined to take the initiative in using quantum technologies to create new industries and businesses. The alliance currently has 106 corporate members. Q-STAR will continue to collaborate with overseas quantum-related organizations, and also to take the lead in international standardization activities to promote quantum technology.
